Barclay Knapp, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer

  • J. Barclay Knapp was named Telecommunications Executive of the Year in 1998 by The Financial Times.
  • Prior to founding ProCapital Mr. Knapp was the CEO, Chairman and Founder of Clearband. Mr. Knapp also co-founded and served as CEO and President of NTL, Inc. (now Virgin Media Inc.), and also co-founded and served as CEO and President of Cellular Communications, Inc. (Cellular One), Cellular Communications International, Inc., Cellular Communications of Puerto Rico, Inc., and CoreComm LLC.
  • In 1993, Mr. Knapp co-founded NTL to build one of the world’s first hybrid fiber-coax networks in the United Kingdom. NTL began by providing telephone, Internet, and cable television in Scotland, Wales, and suburban London, and quickly revolutionized the marketing of bundled cable TV and telephone services. It expanded geographically, via both internal growth and acquisition, to serve the majority of the British population and is today the largest cable and broadband provider in the UK. Mr. Knapp served as President and Chief Executive Officer of NTL until 2003.
  • Mr. Knapp co-founded Cellular Communications, Inc. in 1983, serving first as CFO and later as President and COO. CCI, the first cellular company in the U.S. to go public, became one of the largest independent cellular system operators in the US, growing from start-up to over 1.25 million customers by the time of its sale to Airtouch in 1996. He also co-founded Cellular Communications International, Inc., which was sold to Olivetti SpA and Mannesmann AG in 1999, and Cellular Communications of Puerto Rico, Inc., which was sold to SBC Communications Inc. in 1999.
  • Mr. Knapp earned an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA in Mathematics from The Johns Hopkins University. He has served as a member of the Board of Trustees of The John Hopkins University for over 10 years, and is now a Senior Fellow in the Center for Financial Economics at The Johns Hopkins University.

Chris Skudder, Managing Director (ProCapital Advisors)

  • Prior to joining ProCapital, Mr. Skudder was President and COO of Clearband. He has 17 years of telecommunications experience, and another 20 years in other high growth technology-based service businesses.
  • Mr. Skudder served as Group Managing Director (COO) of NTL’s Consumer Division, contributing half of NTL’s revenue. He led the division’s growth organically and by acquisition to over 2 million customers. He led the operating team which won First Place J. D. Power service awards for Best Multi-channel TV and Best Telephone providers, and achieved industry leading penetration and churn with innovative early bundled marketing of phone, Internet, and pay TV service. Mr. Skudder led the division through the integration of 4 acquisitions valued at over $2 billion, tripling NTL’s subscriber base in 3 years.
  • Prior to NTL, Mr. Skudder served as Sr. Vice President of Operations in Cellular Communications, Inc. (Cellular One) during the company’s growth to 1.25 million customers. Prior to that, Mr. Skudder headed catalog sales and service for Victoria’s Secret and Talbot’s.
  • Mr. Skudder earned an MBA from Harvard Business School and a bachelor’s degree from Williams College in Massachusetts.
